Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Lifestyle Hikers Jamaica handles personal information when you use our website, join our community, request trail alerts or send an enquiry.

Information we collect

Depending on how you use the site, we may collect:

  • your name, email address and optional phone or WhatsApp number;
  • organization, group, hiking-experience and enquiry details you choose to provide;
  • community-request status and the date and version of the privacy notice you accepted;
  • when you make a hike booking, booking status, emergency-contact details, waiver acceptance and payment outcome—but never your card number or security code;
  • messages and follow-up correspondence;
  • technical request and security information processed by our website hosting providers; and
  • page, device, browser, referrer and interaction information through Google Analytics and Ahrefs only after you accept optional analytics.

Do not submit payment-card, banking, medical, emergency-contact or identification information through the community or enquiry forms. Emergency-contact and waiver information is requested only within the dedicated hike-booking flow. School enquiry forms must not include personal information about students or other minors.

Why we use information

We use personal information to respond to enquiries, review community and trail-alert requests, administer bookings and hike safety, maintain website security, comply with legal obligations and—when you consent—understand how visitors use the website.

You may withdraw consent for community messages or optional analytics at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal.

Forms, service providers and international transfers

Community requests and booking records are stored privately through Supabase and handled by server functions hosted on Vercel. Formspree receives school, corporate, partnership and private-hike enquiries; Google Forms remains in use for selected merchandise or legacy forms. GitHub stores the public website source but does not store community applications or booking records. Optional analytics use Google Analytics and Ahrefs. These providers process information on our behalf under their own security, privacy and retention arrangements.

Some providers may process or store information outside Jamaica. When we use an overseas provider, we assess the service and take reasonable steps to ensure the transfer and processing protect your rights under applicable Jamaican data-protection requirements.

Retention

  • Enquiries: partnership, corporate, private-hike, school and similar enquiries are retained for up to 24 months after the last interaction.
  • Community and trail alerts: contact details are retained until you unsubscribe or after 24 months without meaningful engagement, whichever comes first.
  • Bookings and waivers: operational records are retained only as long as reasonably needed for hike administration, safety, accounting, dispute handling and applicable legal obligations. Emergency-contact details are not used for marketing.
  • Analytics: analytics data is retained for no more than 14 months where the provider setting allows us to control the period.
  • Privacy choice: your analytics preference is stored in your browser for up to 12 months, after which we ask again.

We may retain limited records longer where reasonably necessary to resolve a dispute, meet a legal obligation or establish, exercise or defend a legal claim.

Analytics, cookies and local storage

Optional analytics is off by default. Google Analytics and Ahrefs scripts are not loaded unless you select Accept Analytics. You can keep analytics off and still use the website.

The site may use necessary browser storage and secure, HttpOnly session cookies for your privacy choice, booking access and user-requested features such as saved trails. You can reopen Privacy Choices in the footer to change your analytics decision. If you turn analytics off after accepting it, the page reloads and attempts to remove analytics cookies accessible to the site.

Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may ask to access, correct, restrict or delete your personal information; object to certain processing; withdraw consent; or ask how your information is being used or shared.

Send requests to lifestylehikersja@gmail.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. You may also raise a concern with Jamaica's Office of the Information Commissioner.

Security and external links

We use reasonable organizational and technical safeguards appropriate to the information we handle. No website or transmission method can guarantee absolute security.

Links to Google Forms, Telegram, Instagram and other external services take you to platforms governed by their own privacy policies. Review their terms before providing information directly to them. Supabase credentials remain server-side and are never included in the public website code.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our services or legal obligations change. The effective date at the top of this page identifies the current version. Material changes will be highlighted on the website where appropriate.
