Welcome to the trail
Your first hike.
One step at a time.
You don’t need to know every trail or arrive with a crew. Start with an outing that suits you, get the details, and come prepared.
Choose a hike that suits you
Look at distance, expected walking time and terrain together. Ask the organizer about steep climbs, uneven ground, water crossings and the group’s pace. Let them know you’re new and describe the walking you’re comfortable doing.
Coming alone? Ask where to meet the group and who to look for. A community signup is a way to connect; your place on an outing needs separate confirmation.
Explore Holywell and Cinchona as starting points for comparing routes. Check the specific itinerary before deciding which suits you.

- What is the total price, and does it include entry, a guide or transport?
- Where exactly do we meet, and what time do we leave and return?
- Is transport provided, or do I arrange my own way there and back?
- How do I confirm my place, and what happens if plans change?
- What is the plan if rain affects the route?
Prices and arrangements vary by outing. If a detail isn’t listed, confirm it with the organizer before paying or travelling.
Pack for the actual route
Start with comfortable footwear with grip, drinking water, food for the outing, rain protection and a small backpack. Protect your phone and other essentials from rain. Bring any personal essentials you normally need for a day outdoors.
Ask about water activities, a change of clothes, entry requirements and how much water to carry for that particular hike. Keep your hands free and leave room to carry your rubbish home.
