Know before you go

Hike levels, 1 to 10.

Every Lifestyle Hikers outing gets a level. Level 1 is the gentlest day out; Level 10 is the toughest thing we do. Pick a level that matches the walking you're comfortable with today, then work your way up.

The scale

  1. 1–2

    Easy & relaxed

Short, gentle walks and river days. Mostly even ground with time to swim, rest and take photos. A great first hike.

  2. 3–4

    Light

Longer walks with some hills. Comfortable if you walk regularly; no hiking experience needed.

  3. 5–6

    Moderate to challenging

Steady climbs, uneven or rocky ground, and sometimes river crossings. Expect a few hours on your feet and a real workout.

  4. 7–8

    Hard

Long, steep sections and a demanding day. Best once you've done a few Level 5–6 hikes with us.

  5. 9–10

    Our toughest

Long, steep, high-effort days for experienced hikers. Come with good fitness, proper footwear and plenty of water.

Moving up

It's a hike, not a race. We move at the group's pace and take breaks together, so nobody gets left behind. If you're new, start around Level 1–4. Once a level feels comfortable, try one or two levels higher next time.

Levels describe the whole day: distance, climbing, terrain and time on your feet. Rain can make any trail harder, so check the hike details and the forecast the night before.
